I'm back! A little book update :)

I'm fully aware of how much I've epically SUCKED at keeping up with my blog and my course but that doesn't meant I haven't been book collecting and reading! :) My course books have finally finished and I am able to sink my teeth into some of the lovely books that are currently sat on my shelf.
Since I last blogged I've bought and received many books which I shall show you in a moment. I've also celebrated my 22nd birthday (oh gawd :() and been to the British National Archery Championships where my better half shot for Wales! It was an amazing experience, especially seeing all the big guns shooting. Incredible. 

On to my books :). I'm currently in the university library so I'm gonna sadly have to show you online pictures rather than the photographs that I've taken.

Shocking: Obama apparently won due to the 'slut vote'

A short blog just to publish these two articles which have shocked and disgusted me! A man under the name of B-Skillet (a member of Christian Men's Defence Network)has written a blog post titled; "What the Right Doesn't Get About Elections". He argues that Barack Obama won the election purely due to 'Slut Vote' aka the single, liberated women voting. The links within my post are a summary by the Independent Newspaper and the other a blog post fighting back against the claims of 'B-Skillet'. I can't actually link to his blog unfortunately as it is private (I wonder why!?) but these I can give you:

Q: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

Not at all, in fact I'm terrible for hoarding very similar books. If I find a book that I love I then go on a hunt for something very similar. It took me a very long time to find something up there with Kelley Armstrong (she popped my paranormal virginity!) when I initially started book hunting but now it's like second nature. It's brilliant in a way, but I also limit myself in others. Now that I'm getting older I like to think I'm branching out a bit into other genres but who knows :P.

WWW Wednesday #11/ Waiting on Wednesday #9

Wednesday's meme is hosted over at Should Be Reading, a meme which I have been slacking in lately! Postgrad life is depriving me of my blogging/ review writing :(. Anyway, the aim of this meme is to showcase what we're currently reading and what we want to read. It's a way to show off some books and give them a bit of extra publicity :).

The rules are simple. All that has to be done is to answer the following three questions:

What are you currently reading?

I'm currently reading Hottentot Venus by Barbara Chase-Riboud. It's not a book I would have personally chosen to read but it definitely isn't the worst. It is a book that is being studied as part of my Neo-Victorian Mutinies module so it deals with a lot of colonization and societal issues. Deep stuff! 

What did you recently finish?

Again with the course books, I've recently finished reading Farrell's Siege of Krishnapur, Ackroyd's Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem (amaaazing book!) and Wanting by Richard Flanagan. It was a good book I will admit, it confronts various issues such as trauma, sexuality, racism, gender. I rated this one as 3/5* :).

What do you think you'll read next?

Sarah Waters' Fingersmith. Finally a book I actually want to read! I was so happy when I found out that this book was on my course. Nooooot a problem ;).
