'Reading a book is like re-writing it for yourself. You bring to a novel, anything you read, all your experience of the world. You bring your history and you read it in your own terms.'- Angela Carter

Teaser Tuesday #4

Today I'm going to once again participate in a meme hosted by MizB over at Should Be Reading : Teaser Tuesday! What must be done is:
*Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS!
(Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Legend of the Chosen (Destiny's Kingdom #1)This weeks teaser comes from Legend of the Chosen by Jennifer Selzer and Daniel Huber:

In the beginning the gods created evil
Left alone it grew vengeful
Angry, it sought to destroy all of existence
The Bethel galaxy is all that remains.

Bethel, the charmed central planet of the galaxy is on the brink of the year’s most anticipated event: the celebrated Twilight Bloom. Quade Decairus has no reason to believe that this year will be any different than those in the past: food and music, friends and the good cheer of those he loves the most. So why has he been plagued with nightmares of the end of his world coming on this very night?
Prophecies masked as legends. Impossible visions, bringing universal destruction. Only one man can seek those chosen to stop the evil and save them all.
In a world rich with magic and technology, a seamless blend of Fantasy and Sci-Fi, Destiny’s Kingdom explores Quade’s journey as he quests to save a galaxy that has always known peace and prosperity from a powerful evil only he can face.
Legend of the Chosen is book one in the Destiny’s Kingdom series.
Goodreads || Amazon

Teaser:

"All she could think of now was the events of the previous day, all she kept hearing again and again in her mind was Quade's voice, all she kept seeing was the confused desperation that flashed in his eyes.
'P'cadia lost, P'cadia found...' How could this be happening?" (51%)

So far so good with this book! I am 51% of the way through it and am loving it. When I initially started I had the feeling of oh-no-not-another-dragger but I am soooo happy to be wrong! The introduction of the character of Clea (as quoted above) is what changed it for me I think. I was lucky enough to request and receive this gem to review from Goodreads and will probably have the review up by the end of the week at the pace I'm zooming through it :).

The Scorpio RacesThis weeks teaser is coming from Maggie Stiefvater's The Scorpio Races:
It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die.

At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.

Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.

Teasers:

'In my head, I trace the steps we'd have to take to get back to the house: around the other side of the lean-t0, down two sections of fence, over the metal-tube gate, then five metres to the door. Maybe one of us would get over the gate in time. That's not enough.' (p. 273).

So that's this weeks teasers :). I'd love to read yours!

Teaser Tuesday!

Today I'm going to once again participate in a really cute meme hosted by MizB over at Should Be Reading : Teaser Tuesday! What must be done iiiiiis:

*Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS!

Crashing EdenThis weeks book I'm going to tease you with is:
Crashing Eden by Michael Sussman.
For one boy and his friends, the path to Paradise comes at a cost—one they may not be prepared to pay.

When a biking accident leaves 17-year-old Joss Kazdan with the ability to hear things others can't, reality as he knows it begins to unravel.

A world of legends exists beyond the ordinary life he's always known, and he is transported to the same Paradise he's studying in World Mythology. But the strange gets even stranger when his new friends build a device that delivers people through the gates of the Garden of Eden.
Now Samael, the Creator God, is furious. As Samael rains down his apocalyptic devastation on the ecstasy-seeking teens, Joss and his companions must find a way to appease Samael—or the world will be destroyed forever.

Teaser 1:
'I set the remote to low, figuring I'd ease into the thing. I closed my eyes, drew several deep breaths, and took the plunge.'
Teaser 2:
'I soared through the clouds and emerged into a moonless night sky, splattered with more twinkling stars that I'd ever seen. The beauty of the Milky Way, glowing like a molten river, was breathtaking.'

So that's my teasers for this week! A surprise for me too as I've literally just started this book :). Come share yours!

Teaser Tuesday!

Whilst flicking through the blogs I follow, I came across a meme that I hadn't seen before on Shreya's blog at Chocolate Coated Reviews. It's a really cute meme hosted by MizB over at Should Be Reading. It consists of the following:

*Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS!
(Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I thought it sounded like fun! :D

So my first ever Tuesday Teaser comes from Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Teaser 1:

'It was then, turning around in the street, that she began to feel that something was off. It was a soft sensation of wrongness, but it was enough that her steps stammered to a halt and she looked around.'

Teaser 2:

'... the puppeteer sat alone, ten feet tall and sinister, with its cruel carved face and wooden hands the size of snow shovels. Karou peered behind it-it was clad in an immense trench coat-and no one was there, either. "Hello?" she called, surprised that Zuzana would have left her creation unattended. But then, 'Karou!' came from inside the thing, and the back seam of the trench parted...'

So that's my first ever Teaser Tuesday done! The book so far is awesome, something really different :). The review will be up sooner rather than later since I'm already over 40% after only a few hours!
