The Jewel (The Lone City, #1)Title: The Jewel

Publication Date: 4th September, 2014

A shocking and compelling new YA series from debut author, Amy Ewing; The Handmaid's Tale meets The Other Boleyn Girl in a world where beauty and brutality collide.

Violet Lasting is no longer a human being. Tomorrow she becomes Lot 197, auctioned to the highest royal bidder in the Jewel of the Lone City. Tomorrow she becomes the Surrogate of the House of the Lake, her sole purpose to produce a healthy heir for the Duchess. Imprisoned in the opulent cage of the palace, Violet learns the brutal ways of the Jewel, where the royal women compete to secure their bloodline and the surrogates are treated as disposable commodities.

Destined to carry the child of a woman she despises, Violet enters a living death of captivity – until she sets eyes on Ash Lockwood, the royal Companion. Compelled towards each other by a reckless, clandestine passion, Violet and Ash dance like puppets in a deadly game of court politics, until they become each other’s jeopardy – and salvation.

REVIEW & BLOG TOUR: Branded - Abi Ketner, Missy Kalicicki

Branded - Abi Ketner, Missy Kalicicki
Branded (Sinners, #1)

Fifty years ago the Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society. He created the Hole where sinners are branded according to their sins and might survive a few years. At best.
Now LUST wraps around my neck like blue fingers strangling me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit and now the Hole is my new home.

Darkness. Death. Violence. Pain.

Now every day is a fight for survival. But I won’t die. I won’t let them win.

The Hole can’t keep me. The Hole can’t break me.
I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter.
My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.

Margaret Atwood Reading Challenge

Refreshing this challenge a little - this is something I set myself to do in my very first few months of blogging but seems to have slipped away from my attention. I plan on working my way through Atwood's books in their entirety. I've read very few so far and plan to work on this a.s.a.p. Feel free to join in if you wish to read more Atwood :). I think I'll go back over the others and write up reviews for them at some point too!

REVIEW: Stung - Bethany Wiggins

Stung - Bethany Wiggins
Stung
In a world in crisis, children are the future. Part of the cure. Not now. Children are deadly. Marked one to ten. Fiona is a TEN. She just doesn't know it yet . . . She doesn't know her true strength.

Fiona doesn't remember going to sleep. But she has woken to find her entire world has changed - her house is abandoned and broken, and her neighbourhood is barren and dead. Even stranger is the tattoo on her right wrist that she doesn't remember getting but somehow knows she must cover at any cost. And she's right. When the honeybee population collapsed, a worldwide pandemic occurred and the government tried to bio-engineer a cure. But instead the vaccination turned people into ferocious, deadly beasts. They have been branded as a warning to unvaccinated survivors. Key people needed to rebuild society are protected inside a fortress-like wall. Fiona has awakened branded, alone and on the wrong side of the wall . . .

Adult Dystopia Challenge

This is inspired mainly by Ula at Blog of Erised's Dystopia Reading Challenge, but it's kind of an open ended challenge. What the challenge is going to be is to just make our way through a massive list of adult dystopian literature. I discovered this list through a tweet by Ellie at Curiosity Killed the Bookworm and this amazing list of 70 books is thanks to Leeswammes! I'll be crossing out the ones I've read as I read them to keep track. I'd never have found so many amazing adult dystopia's without this list. I will also create a linky for reviews :). Don't forget to grab the button too (created by Ula!).
