'Reading a book is like re-writing it for yourself. You bring to a novel, anything you read, all your experience of the world. You bring your history and you read it in your own terms.'- Angela Carter

Top Ten Tuesday #24

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted over at the wonderful blog; Broke and Bookish. This weeks is : Top Ten Best/ Worst Movie Adaptations. This is hard for me because I rarely watch book to film adaptations! So, here we go:

BEST
The Prisoner of Azkaban

The Great Gatsby
Memoirs of a Geisha
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
The Hunger Games
Wuthering Heights

The Princess Diaries

WORST
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Twilight
Romeo and Juliet

  1. I really enjoyed the Gatsby and Romeo and Juliet adaptations, there are just so many good adaptations out there. Ten was pretty hard to restrict myself to this time, although I forced myself to. There are three images not showing up for me (Romeo and Juliet, Princess Diaries and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix)

  2. Great top ten! I did not like HP 5 too, it was the worst of all HP movies.

  3. Great list. I haven't seen Gatsby yet, but I enjoyed the book so much! I want to see it for sure and I'm glad it made your list as one of the best. Now I will have to see it!

  4. OotP was pretty bad indeed. Even the acting of the members got downgraded. I wonder what happened.
And yes on Twilight... I mean the books sucked but the movies took it to a whole new level...

  5. Prisoner of Azkaban is one of my favorite HP adaptations too. Loved the Hunger Games as well. Twilight was awful all-around for me.

  6. I loved Baz Lurhmann's Romeo and Juliet, but while I thought The Great Gatsby was a good film, I didn't think it was a good adaptation of the book.

I have to confess that Prisoner of Azkaban is my least favourite Harry Potter film, mainly because it's my favourite book and I think the film didn't live up to the book at all.

I would definitely put The Hunger Games in my best list as well!

  8. I am so glad that I'm not the only one who thinks Prisoner of Azkaban is THE best HP film ever made. Man, I wish that director had stuck around for ALL the other HP movies that came after that one. I agree that OoTP was pretty bad but my worst HP adaptation is definitely Half-Blood Prince. The movie felt like a romantic comedy...and don't even get me started on Ginny wiping Harry's nose, tying his show or hand-feeding him cookies. Oh and that bit where they SET FIRE TO HE BURROW?!?! Gah! *breathes* ok, moving on LOL...

I definitely agree with you on Hunger Games & Philosopher's Stone..oh and Gatsby is on the watchlist!

Twilight the movie(s) made the books even more cheesy and they sort of ruined any credibility the books might have had. Plus the movies have Kristen Stewart. Bleh. I liked Bella in the books a lot more...
